OSCommerce - What's Important?

Are you happy with the look of your website?
The simple answer is - "ask someone". 15 year old children are more clued-up than most adults, so if you know one, ask them. Look at your competition. If you like the look of your competitors website better than yours, it's time to change - press "No".
If your website runs a template system, you can more easily change the look of your website while keeping the functionality the same.
If your website is based on the old MS2 code, it may be time to look into updating the software and design at the same time.
CRE Loaded / Loaded Commerce is OSCommerce software we recommend. You can come to us to update your software to the latest and we'll integrate
the customisations you've had done and recommend new ones to improve your customer experience.
Do your images sell your products?
Many OSC stores aren't set up to display images very well. Each product has one image and they are squashed when they need to show
a smaller image and stretched and fuzzy when they want to display an enlarged image.
When you use a large image and make it smaller with the browser shrinking it, the quality goes down. Make separate images for display on the product listing page and the product details page and a bigger image for a magnified view. At the same time make sure the filename is relevant. That all takes time when you've got hundreds or thousands of products to do, so make it easy and get automation help.
Do you appear high up in the search engine rankings?
Think about one of your best selling or most profitable products and think what you'd type into a search engine if you wanted to buy one of these yourself. If your site comes on the first page, you're doing well. If it's a very popular product you'll have more difficulty getting onto the first page than if you're selling a niche product. Think about other words and see where you come.
Then try the same thing again on Google and click the "Shopping" link. Do your products show up when you enter the barcode or SKU or model number of the product?
Can your customers find what they need quicky?
From the home page of your site, how many clicks or key presses does it take to find one product?
Amazon is noted for having brilliant searching capability. You start typing what you're looking for
in the box and Amazon tries to guess what you're typing and gives you search results with each
keypress. This can be known as Predictive Searching. Wouldn't it be great
to give this ability to OSCommerce?
Is it easy for your customers to pay?
Some sites are really easy to complete the checkout. Others not so much. How many times do your customers have to load a new page before they complete their payment? If it's a lot, there's more opportunity for a customer to get fed up and go elsewhere.
Do the shipping costs actually reflect what you have to pay for postage?
If you ever find yourself paying for that courier with more money than you got for shipping, you may be doing it for marketing reasons, but if you're not, click "No".
Have you had any orders for the Shetland Isles? For all but the smallest items, it'll cost more than something shipped to Glasgow. Get shipping modules for OSCommerce that will charge appropriately for highlands and islands shipping even if the customer claims they're on the mainland. Click here for a better shipping module.

Help, we seem to have disappeared from Google shopping
Google introduced the requirement (Sep 2011) to include information about availability of your products in your
google base data feed, so if you've not made modifications to allow for that, you'll be getting messages in your
Google Base control panel telling you your products are imported but not searchable.

If you've got an OSCommerce store and want to use Worldpay, this payment module interfaces with Worldpay
and provides good reporting to help you manage your orders efficiently.
Once you've got a good store selling well, improve your rankings by getting customer reviews. Trustpilot provides the service

star ratings which can improve how many customers choose to come to your site.
Use Google maps API to display custom maps for your customers or your workforce with pins added from a database.
Then find the nearest pin to any UK postcode.
Pay4Later with OSCommerce
If you sell high value products, one thing that might be stopping you selling more is the availability of credit for
your customers. Pay4Later provides these facilities meaning you can get paid when you've shipped the goods.
